You could be killing your hair right now! Did you know that most of the styling techniques we use to fix our hair actually do a lot of damage? If you have dry, curly, frizzy, color treated or permed hair, you might need special professional shampoos and other styling products to help tame your wild locks. While the best fix for damaged hair is prevention, there are still some things you can do to repair what us already damaged. Are you doomed to cut it all off and start over again? Fortunately, there are some other options for you. The best option is always not to abuse your hair in the first place but some things such as sun exposure cannot be avoided completely. There are things you can do to help repair your already damaged hair.

How to Repair Already Damaged Hair

There is no magic formula that will cure all of your hair problems and there is no special fix that will instantly repair the years of mistreatment you have likely put on your hair.

There are, however, some things you can do to help improve the quality and condition of your hair. Keep in mind that these steps will not cure your hair overnight. In fact, you may have to do these treatments several times over to start seeing results as your hair improves over time.

  1. Use Nexxus Emergencee once a day for a week, then drop off to once a week. Follow each Emergencee treatment with a good moisturizer.
  2. Start taking a good hair supplement(this will take time, as hair grows on average 1/2″ per month)
  3. Mix a “cocktail” of 1oz. Nexxus Humectress, 1oz. Nexxus Epitome, 1oz. Nexxus KerapHix, and 1 teaspoon vegetable oil. Shake well, apply (the size of a quarter) to clean towel dried hair, leave on for 10 minutes, rinse.
  4. Another good option is 1oz. Paul Mitchell Super Charged Conditioner, 1oz. Paul Mitchell Hair Repair, and 1 oz. L’anza Reconstructor. Mix well, apply the size of quarter to clean damp hair, leave on 10 minutes, rinse.
  5. Go to a salon that offers the L’anza Ultimate Treatment.
  6. Use at-home hot oil treatments.

A little common sense goes a long way. If you do something and it seems to causing more harm to your hair, you should stop or at least limit the amount you do it. For example, if you normally blow dry your hair straight, try giving it a break on the weekends or when you are just lounging around the home.

Prevention is always the best method so when possible, you need to do what you can to protect your hair.

How Can You Protect Your Hair?

As we said, once you have learned what harms your hair, you can begin taking the needed steps to prevent it. What are some of our best tips for protecting your hair in the future?

Here are some ways to prevent or “help” prevent damage to your hair:

1) Use a thermal protector when using heat.

2) Do not blow dry the hair completely dry. Leave a little moisture in.

3) Use a conditioner with U.V. protectors built in.

4) Use a low or no ammonia hair color.

5) Air oxidize perms instead of using the neutralizer.

6) Never brush wet or damp hair. Use a wide toothed comb.

7) Avoid too much time in chlorinated pools or wear a swimming cap when you swim.

8) On dry hair use a boars hair brush and start at the ends and work up.

9) Clarify your hair after you swim.

10) Blow dry on the “cool” setting.

11) Eat protein rich foods (chicken, fish, nuts).

12) Eat foods rich in essential fatty acids (not from animal sources).

These are all some great ways to fix your damaged hair and protect your locks in the future so that you have lovely, flowing tresses no matter what type or style hair you have.
